{"id":1453,"date":"2015-12-31T17:20:22","date_gmt":"2015-12-31T22:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/?p=1453"},"modified":"2016-01-09T18:03:59","modified_gmt":"2016-01-09T23:03:59","slug":"nav-antenna-bracket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/?p=1453","title":{"rendered":"NAV Antenna Bracket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started the day wanting to utilize the fantastic CherryMAX and CherryLOCK riveters loaned from my brother on the forward floor pans.\u00a0 However, the offset head of the CherryMAX is rated for sizes 4,5 and 6 rivets, it does not want to work on generic LP4-4 rivets. The mechanism operates properly, just does not grip the smooth shafts of the generic rivets properly.\u00a0 On test stock, a geniune CherryMAX rivet worked perfectly.\u00a0 I may go out to Aircraft Spruce to purchase a few just for practice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMGP6024.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-HqFcLCC7\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1449 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMGP6024-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"IMGP6024\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMGP6024-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMGP6024-200x200.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Here the CherryMAX rivet puller is attempted with an LP4-4 rivet.\u00a0 No joy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I then decided to start building a prototype bracket for the Comant CI-158C VOC\/LOC\/GS antenna.\u00a0 The plan from way-back when building the vertical stabilizer (VS) was locate the antenna under the top fiberglass dome.\u00a0 I had previously added a 5\/8&#8243; black conduit and reinforcing plate to this location on the VS.\u00a0 Now the antenna puck and whip antennas are physically available for inspection, I probably would relocate some of the holes to make assembly easier. Anyway the mock-up was started with a piece of 3\/4&#8243; red oak to simulate the eventual stock of acetal copolymer (ordered today).\u00a0 The DuPont trademarked material is called Delrin, and differs from the generic acetal by consisting of a monopolymer &#8211; somewhat stronger, but considerable more expensive.\u00a0 I had originally thought of using a nylon block, but my technical counselor advised against due to the greater mechanical properties and ability to machine finish the copolymer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMGP6028.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-HqFcLCC7\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1450 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMGP6028-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"IMGP6028\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMGP6028-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMGP6028-200x200.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Here the oak board is clamped in the drill press for side drilling a 1\/2&#8243; hole.
