{"id":1652,"date":"2016-05-22T09:28:31","date_gmt":"2016-05-22T13:28:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/?p=1652"},"modified":"2016-05-22T09:30:06","modified_gmt":"2016-05-22T13:30:06","slug":"spar-reinforcement-brackets-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/?p=1652","title":{"rendered":"Spar Reinforcement Brackets (2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After two weeks in Germany on vacation and visiting relatives, I got back to a few miscellaneous activities previously started a while back.\u00a0 The first was riveting the spar reinforcement brackets into place using the excellent tandem piston, alligator rivet squeezers Rich had obtained in an estate sale.\u00a0 I had refurbished the squeezer itself months back (see past postings), but did not have the appropriately sized squeezer dies for -3 or -4 rivets.\u00a0 I finally located a source in Florida called Delta International and ordered the right size for the job.\u00a0 They arrived on Thursday and on Saturday riveting began.<\/p>\n<p>I first used the AHARS platform as an off-plane test of the squeezer.\u00a0 It takes a bit of adjusting with shims to get the pressure\/offset between the heads correctly for a good squeeze depth.\u00a0 Plus the stationary arm of the alligator jaws must be the one with the AN470 die.\u00a0 Otherwise, the shop side of the rivet will be bent or smushed down incorrectly.\u00a0 With a bit of practice on the platform parts, I was able to get consistently excellent results.\u00a0 So glad I continued the advice never to do something for the first time directly on the plane.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMGP6601.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-zCn6bXdH\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1650 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMGP6601-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"IMGP6601\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMGP6601-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMGP6601-200x200.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMGP6602.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-zCn6bXdH\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1651 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMGP6602-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"IMGP6602\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMGP6602-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/rv10.mirimar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMGP6602-200x200.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Here is the squeezing operation in progress. The results speak for themselves.
